My picture series ‘FULL OF EMPTINESS, Water I, Fire II, Earth III’ (2024), uses quotations from mythology, art history and pop culture to negotiate the charged tension of the here and now.
The visual world is populated by fantasy creatures and figures that are both the subject and object of a merciless social and economic system. Chimeras and divine beings populate the pictures. I stage apocalyptic spheres. In the floods, for example, there are allusions to scenes from Hieronymus Bosch's painting ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’ (picture quotation: Hieronymus Bosch, The Garden of Earthly Delights, ca. 1490-1500). The scenes are exaggerated and show our merciless system on its way to renewal, to a bang, to the ice age of modernity.
